Pennsylvania’s a great state, and owning single or multi-unit franchising in the state is a great opportunity to create generational wealth. 

I’ve been around the block (and crossed state lines more times than I can count). Pennsylvania’s one of the states that gets me excited! 

Cheesesteaks. Visits to Wawa and an appreciation for supporting small entrepreneurs, the state has so much to offer – also in terms of investing.

The companies listed below are only a fraction of the many opportunities out there, but they’re definitely some good ones.

Crumbl Cookies

Crumbl Cookies. I can’t even say the name without my mouth starting to water. I love them. I love to eat them, and I love them as one of the best multi-unit franchise opportunities in Pennsylvania too. They even made the list when I wrote about the best options for North Carolina

Crumbl is spreading like wildfire across the nation for many reasons. High margin. Check. Repeat customers. Check. Fairly simple operations. Check. Before you storm off to take a look at their FDD (franchise disclosure document), make sure you read about the other options I cover, and make sure to reach out so we can review your options, though! 

Pennsylvanians love a sweet treat almost as much as they love their gas station (Wawa) coffee! 

As far as I’m concerned, this is a great franchisor if you’re in a state where there are many younger people. Hear me out. Instagram. Customers buy these impressive cookies and are thrilled about posting pictures on various social media. 

If you’re looking to develop franchise units in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or Allentown where there’s a bigger, younger population, you can’t overlook this option.

The downside is that Crumbl is a premium product, which also means there are probably locations that aren’t right for it.

StormGuard

Pennsylvania is not the state in the country that gets the most extreme weather, but a roofing company can be a very lucrative business regardless. On top, Pennsylvania gets occasional hail and hail is great if you’re fixing roofs. 

StormGuard is a great company with great margins if you know how to do it right. Many roofs get fixed, and insurance ends up picking up the bill for them. It’s a great model when the end customer isn’t even the person footing the bill. With a focus on roofing, siding, and gutters, you’re ready to run around affluent areas and help homeowners who need their house done. 

Then, when hail hits, they’re already thinking about you. I would personally consider this business in areas like Bucks County or Lancaster. 

Pennsylvania is not the place where you expect many and repeated storms that are great for roofing companies, but roofs still need to be replaced from time to time. With consistent local networking, there is surely a business case.

Woops

You will know the charm that only European cafes have if you’ve ever been to the continent, and Woops is an attempt at bringing some of that charm to America. Even if people in Pennsylvania tend to be very loyal to their local bakeries, Woops offers something not widely available in America.

Macarons and more are bakery products that are here to stay, if you ask me. And they have great margins too! Pennsylvanians love a good specialty shop, and I would personally put something like a Woops in a location where there are lots of tourists and foot traffic. On the other hand, I would probably avoid college towns or places where people have limited disposable income since Woops’ products are definitely a treat.

When you buy into the Woops franchise, you’re buying into a finer experience. 

Qualicare

Qualicare, while not the only remaining great multi-unit franchise opportunity in PA, is the last one on the list (the rest you’ll have to reach out for us to discuss). 

Home care isn’t quite as flashy, nor will you be seeing a lot of pictures on social media from the product offered. However, Qualicare Home Care is a “product” you can be proud of, and there’s a lot of growth potential as aging in place is increasing in demand due to an aging population. 

In-home healthcare and companionship is very important not just for the daily operations but also to avoid loneliness. 

There are several markets in Pennsylvania where this business could work, like Pittsburgh a nd Scranton. You could even expand to smaller cities where there are bubbles of seniors living. 

Qualicare is a great company and the franchisor provides a lot of support when it comes to training the staff you’ll have on your team. However, the state of Pennsylvania has some specific factors that you should consider in your choice of franchise, and the first one is population density and urban/rural mix. While I’ve only touched on a small handful of companies above, a company like Crumbl will do better in places with lots of foot traffic. On the other hand, Qualicare doesn’t require that. 

Weather patterns is the next one. StormGuard is a great company to be a part of when you know you can expect consistent hailstorm, however, it’s not the only franchise where weather will impact its performance. Tons of businesses are affected if the weather’s bad, so keep that in mind when choosing. 

Economic stability and demographic is the last factor I’ll touch on when it comes to Pennsylvania. Some products offered by franchisors just lend themselves better to specific demographics, so consider what that means where you want to set up shop!
