While I personally live in and love Raleigh, there are so many great parts to the state.
It’s the Tar Heel State that delivers gorgeous weather for most of the year, and it’s no wonder people are moving here at the pace that they are.
With as much as there’s going on in North Carolina, it also leaves great opportunities for ambitious entrepreneurs.

I was personally surprised when I went to a Nothing Bundt Cakes not too long ago to see what they charged for cake.
Admittedly, I really thought the cake was good. What’s great about this place is that it’s not just your typical dessert shop.
Nothing Bundt Cakes is an experience, while offering something that’s a great balance between upscale and an option you can take home and enjoy there.
It almost feels like it’s the perfect fit for North Carolina! Whether it’s baby showers, weddings, church socials, or BBQs, North Carolinians are always getting together. The real question is… Is it really a party if there’s no cake?
I personally feel places like Cary, Huntersville, and Winston-Salem are great options where this concept could be a huge success! Even if it has a higher price tag than going and getting cake at your local grocery store, the experience and taste makes it completely warranted!
If you can manage to set up shop by a place that has a lot of foot traffic or visibility, it’s more likely you’ll be able to get customers through the doors. Just imagine how well you could do if all the football moms suddenly found out you’re selling the best cake in the city!

Dogtopia
I’ve personally been surprised just how many people have dogs, and now I have one myself. Being more engrained in the community, I’ve realized just how much money it’s easy to spend on a dog, and Dogtopia is one of the best franchise opportunities in North Carolina as a consequence.
Dogtopia is the Cadilac of dog daycare. If you’ve never had a dog yourself, try and go check out places where people with dogs get together. There’s even a dog daycare downtown that offers beer where dogs get to hang out together.

As a person who doesn’t live close to my family, I can definitely value when I get a home-style meal. Black Bear Diner is a franchise opportunity that’s ready to deliver that experience in North Carolina.
Southern comfort is a lifestyle that Black Bear Diner manages to hit just right. Their portions are huge, so you’re sure to take leftovers home to your dog! Black Bear Diner feels warm and could fit in a location like Concord, Asheville, or Apex.
To be honest, if it was in walking distance to where I lived, I would also go there myself on a frequent basis!
However, there’s definitely a thing I need to point out when it comes to diners, and that is that it’s not the simplest business model to run.
You need a fairly considerable staff, a kitchen, and a culture to make sure you’re cooking up food that’s not just worth eating but worth coming back for.
With that said, I must say that all diners seem to have a long wait in North Carolina, so there surely is demand. Full-service restaurants, which this is, is harder to operate than a Nothing Bundt Cakes, but it’s also more rewarding. I do, however, recommend that this is not your first time in a kitchen setting.
A diner is much more likely to be successful if you have prior restaurant experience. As a person who loves to host big groups myself, I know how rewarding I find it when people love the food I’m serving!

North Carolina offers tons of opportunities in various shapes and forms. Franchising is just one of them! In order to be successful in your endeavors, there are important factors to keep in mind that are specific to North Carolina.
Whether setting up in North Carolina, New York, or Illinois, considering the local climate is crucial. It doesn’t matter if it’s how people feel or the weather, local factors are important to consider.
Charlotte and RDU are the two booming metros in the area, and you will want to lean into the healthy habits a lot of people there are enjoying. On top of that, places like Greensboro, Wilmington, and Asheville are less built out from a franchise standpoint where some of the more traditional franchise options may be worth considering.
While the competition for real estate is still heating up, there’s no denying that North Carolina is still in a good spot compared to places like California or Florida. Consider the extent to which a franchise opportunity requires foot traffic to succeed and start looking for those real estate locations early. It could take you a while to find the right spot!
